Soil is amazing and alive! But is the soil in your garden healthy? This presentation by Miriam Cheng will help you learn how to enhance, protect, amend and rebuild the soil in your garden, neighborhood and the planet! We will cover soil composition, how to test your soil, and how to amend it for a healthy garden. We will also talk about the differences between soils in the ground vs. raised beds vs. container gardens and how to best prepare it so your garden shines.

Miriam Cheng is the owner-operator of Wild Child Native Gardens LLC, where she works as an organic garden coach and native landscape designer. She shows people how to grow and enjoy plants in their own spaces, while also teaching in community group settings for adults and children.

Miriam grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and became involved early in life in ecosystem conservation, native habitat restoration and kitchen gardens. She later lived in Connecticut, working in community gardens and forest ecosystems and volunteering time removing invasive species. She has been working in the soil and living in the Pittsburgh area for four years.

Miriam is working towards Permaculture Certification, PA Master Gardener, and is currently enrolled in Teaching in Nature’s Classroom. As a garden coach, she belongs to the Gardenary Coach Society and will be certified and highlighted as a local business this spring. She is a member of the Western PA chapter of Wild Ones, a national organization promoting native plants and natural landscapes, and she is on the board of Plant It Further, a nonprofit advocating for and raising awareness through education for native pollinator specific garden growing.

This is a hybrid event. You can attend either in person or online via Zoom!
