COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY: CCAC Wild Cats Basketball Team named WPCC Division III Regular Season Champions

Basketball

Community College of Allegheny issued the following announcement.

The Community College of Allegheny County Wild Cats Men’s Basketball Team was named the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (WPCC) Division III Regular Season Champions. The team went on to compete in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX championship tournament at Westmoreland County Community College. The team finished the season 13–13.

The NJCAA Region XX named CCAC Sophomore Shy Faulkner to the Men’s Basketball Division III All-Region First Team and, as such, he was nominated for All-American honors. CCAC Freshman Jalen Rogers was named to the All-Region Honorable Mention Team.

Special congratulations also go to CCAC students Faulkner, Rogers and Daysean Woodson for being named to the WPCC All-Conference Team. Other Wild Cats team members are Malik Stewart, Nate Kennedy, Markeife Harvey, Imari Walker and Andy Griffiths.

The team, which consisted of all new players, faced some challenges, including playing against four-year schools early in the season. That made the team “very strong,” according to Coach Dave Devenzio.

“We did have a lot of talent,” said Devenzio “I’m very proud of them because they hung in there through some rocky times.”
