Children must be five (5) years-of-age on or before August 15, 2020 to be eligible for kindergarten enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year. Consequently, the child's date of birth must be on or before August 15, 2015.
The first day of school for the 2020-2021 school year is slated for Monday, August 24.
Kindergarten is an exciting time for both you and your child! Elementary school staff strive to make this transition as smooth as possible. To assist your child with the transition to kindergarten, Carnegie and Crafton elementary schools offer a “staggered start” for kindergarten students. Per assigned days, enrolled students are divided into three groups and will attend school for one day during the first week of school, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. On the fourth day, teachers will gather to review assessment results of every child. Students will be assigned to a classroom and parents will be invited to the school on Friday to meet the teacher and view the classroom. Children will begin their first full week of school Monday, August 31 through September 4.
On your child’s staggered start day:
- They will attend normal school hours for two days, 8:25 am to 3:00 pm.
- We will introduce daily routines and procedures, and help your child become more familiar with his/her new surroundings.
- Your child will eat lunch in the cafeteria, play outside for recess and go to one of the five special classes i.e. music, art, etc.
- We will also familiarize your child with arrival, dismissal and bus procedures.
Thank you in advance for supporting our youngest students with a positive beginning!
