CARLOW UNIVERSITY: Carlow’s chief information officer finalist for CIO of Year

Carlow University issued the following  announcement on July 8

When Pittsburgh Technology Council (PTC) announces their CIO of the Year Award later this month, there’s a good chance one of the awardees could be from the Carlow University community.

Gregory Dumont, EdD, Chief Information Officer at Carlow, is a finalist for the award in the non-profit/education category. The winners will be announced during a virtual awards ceremony July 15 at 5:30.

"I am extremely honored to be considered for CIO of the Year. Pittsburgh's high-tech community makes this award highly competitive, but I'm flattered to be included,” Dumont said. “I consider this nomination to be a reflection on the entire IT department at Carlow, because to keep IT running smoothly, particularly in today's remote environment, it is a team effort."

Dumont has been at Carlow since 2018. In that time, he has worked to reorganize and re-staff the IT department to align its work and services in support of Carlow’s strategic goals. This realignment has allowed the department to improve risk mitigation and stabilize ITs infrastructure. Most importantly, Dumont has been able to build working relationships within the university.

“The approach is to collaborate and converse as partners, both equally invested into the success of the other,” he said. “The result is that I have built up trust for the organization across campus and we can be active participants in making smart and important technology decisions for the institution.

David Meadows, Senior Vice President of Finance and Operations at Carlow said, “Greg has elevated the overall performance and strategic vision of Carlow’s Information Technology department significantly. His leadership has resulted in stronger relationships with our external technology partners, reductions in administrative and operating costs throughout the university, and a formal plan to improve Carlow’s infrastructure and networked systems.

“I wholeheartedly support and recommend Greg for CIO of the Year Award.”

Dumont’s efforts have been noticed by Carlow’s external partners as well. Jeff Jablonski, a senior technology consultant with Magna5, has worked with Carlow to modernize its IT environment. He provided this message of support to Pittsburgh Technology Council.

“We love (Greg’s) passion for bringing to life a vision of transforming an aging IT infrastructure into one that’s relevant for today’s digital savvy student body and university campus,” he said. “He’s personable, easy-to-work with, and communicates directly what he expects and needs. He’s also meticulous in ensuring projects stay on track, and he is open to new ideas or recommendations in finding a better way. If any roadblocks arise, he’s always responsive and steps in to get what’s needed to move forward. His energy and drive make him a true IT leader in leading the university’s information technology to a new level to accommodate today’s digital devices and cloud applications … now and into the future.”

If you are interested in watching the awards ceremony virtually, you can access it through the Pittsburgh Technology Council.
