Duquesne University issued the following announcement.
Rich Longo has been named director of Duquesne University's Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
Longo-who was named interim director following former SBDC Director Mary McKinney's retirement in Feb. 2020-has been working in the SBDC for four years in both part-time and full-time roles.
"We are fortunate to have Rich serve as director of the SBDC," says Dr. Michele Migliuolo, executive director of the Center for Excellence in Entrepreneurship, which hosts the SBDC. "Rich's work and leadership as interim director-especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic-has been very effective. His professionalism and breadth of knowledge, along with his strong empathy for his clients, positions the SBDC to help our region recover well in the coming future."
Dr. Dean McFarlin, dean of the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, echoed these sentiments. "I'm very pleased that Rich is now the permanent Director of the SBDC," he said. "Rich has done great work with the tsunami of requests from small businesses needing help during the pandemic and has helped position the SBDC strategically for a future of increased impact. We look forward to his continued success as director."
Longo came to Duquesne in April 2016 as a part-time consultant. He eventually transitioned to a senior full-time consultant role before becoming interim director. "Who would have thought four years ago after selling my healthcare consulting company and thinking about retirement, I would now be the SBDC director? So much for semi-retirement!" says Longo. "I am honored to be able to serve in the position and to have the support of both Michele and School of Business Dean Dr. Dean McFarlin. There is no greater feeling of satisfaction than seeing new businesses develop and existing businesses grow."
Previous positions held include owner and chief executive officer of RIOL, LLC and senior vice president of network management for Devon Health Services, Inc. in King of Prussia, Pa.
