Community College of Allegheny County issued the following announcement.
The Community College of Allegheny County’s Nursing program is now accepting applications for the spring 2021 semester. The deadline for priority consideration is August 15, and the general application period will continue until September 15. For the first time, the required Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) testing will be offered remotely. To aid prospective students with the admissions process, Virtual Nursing Admissions workshops will be held on the following dates: July 15 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; August 1 and 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; and September 8 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
CCAC’s Nursing program continues to deliver an educational experience that thoroughly prepares students for both the required examination and future employment opportunities. CCAC’s current National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) first-time pass rate is 94.69%, which is 9.76% higher than the national mean for all associate degree programs and 6.62% higher than the national mean for all pre-licensure programs (diploma, associate and bachelor). The program also boasts other impressive statistics, including producer of the greatest number of Registered Nurses in Southwestern Pennsylvania and a 90.18% graduate employment rate.
The price per credit for students living in Allegheny County is $118, with 67–68 credits required for graduation. Most students are able to significantly reduce their cost by transferring prior credits to apply toward the degree. In addition, the cost of a Nursing degree at CCAC is the lowest in the region. The average cost for full-time students (depending on individual campus requirements) is approximately $16,700 for students completing the four-semester program and approximately $12,950 for licensed practical nurses entering the LPN-RN Transition program. These figures are based on the assumption of full-time study and the current tuition rates for Allegheny County residents. Pricing is an estimate that includes all tuition, fees, books, supplies, clearances, immunizations and scrubs, etc., but is subject to change. Even at the highest price point, the investment is well worth it, considering that the median annual wage for registered nurses was $73,300 in May 2019, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Furthermore, the projected job growth from 2018–2028 is 12%, much faster than the average for other professions.
In order to apply, prospective students must submit all applications, transcripts, TEAS exam scores and other supporting documents by the application deadline appropriate for designation as either a priority or general applicant.
