Barrett Elementary School issued the following announcement on July 21.
Students in the ESY program show off the radishes they picked from the Franklin Grows Garden
Students in the Steel Valley Extended School Year program had a busy and exciting couple of days last week.
On Wednesday, July 14, the middle school and high school students enjoyed a special field trip to Fox’s Diner on Main Street in Munhall. They weren’t just there for the tasty food, either. Under the guidance of special education teacher Amber Randol and paraprofessionals Holli Bobick, Christine Furrick, Betty Lyons, and Jenn Perhac, the students took some time to practice reading the menu, worked on how to order their own lunches, brushed up on their table manners, and enhanced their social skills while they interacted with Fox’s staff. The students and advisers had a fantastic time and enjoyed some delicious food.
On Thursday, July 15, the students spent time in the Franklin Grows Garden on the Steel Valley campus. While there, they picked a bunch of fresh radishes.
The Extended School Year program helps students sustain the academic and social skills they learned during the traditional school year. The Extended School Year program runs Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will last through July 29.
