Wilkins Elementary School issued the following announcement on Jan. 27.
Dear Woodland Hills School District families and staff,
Following a meeting of the district’s COVID Response Unit on Wednesday, January 26, the Woodland Hills School District has officially confirmed it will return to in-person learning on Monday, January 31.
Scholars should be prepared to arrive in school on time Monday morning and to have all the supplies they will need for a full school day. The district’s COVID Response Unit – which consists of administrators, teachers, members of the school board and the district’s health advisors – would like to thank our families, scholars and staff for helping us navigate this period of virtual learning. Going virtual is always a challenge, but this shift enabled us to weather what we believe was the worst of the spike in cases caused by the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
As we return to in-person learning, we must continue to remain vigilant. The district encourages everyone in the community to get vaccinated and to get the booster shot if you are eligible. The district will be following quarantine guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department, a copy of which is attached to the end of this letter.
In an effort to maximize in-person learning opportunities while keeping the health and safety of our scholars and staff in mind, the district will utilize the following COVID-19 policies:
- With the return to in-person learning, there will no longer be an option for scholars to stay home and do their work in Google Classroom.
- Parents and guardians, we ask that you please keep your scholars home if they show any symptoms of COVID-19, including mild symptoms such as a sore throat or runny nose that can often appear similar to those of colds or sinus infections.
- The district will not be requiring a negative COVID-19 test for scholars to return to school. Families should follow the attached quarantine guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department to chart their scholar’s path to return to school.
- The district is requiring staff to show a documented PCR test from an accredited health professional to confirm a positive test. Results from at-home test kits will not be accepted.
- Masks will continue to be mandatory for scholars, staff and visitors in all Woodland Hills School District facilities. The mask should cover the mouth and the nose.
- Hand sanitizer will continue to be available throughout district buildings
- District maintenance staff will continue the cleaning and disinfection schedule outlined prior to the shift to virtual learning.
Sincerely,
The Woodland Hills School District COVID Response Unit
