The Steel Valley School District hosted its first community meeting on Wednesday, July 13 at Barrett Elementary. The new monthly meetings are designed to foster conversation about areas in which the district can improve as well as to highlight areas of success that can be further emphasized.
The meeting was led by school board members William McLaughlin, JaQuay Carter and Maya Adams. The three sit on the Communications and Technology committee on the board. Steel Valley administrators - including high school principal John Strom, Barrett Elementary principal Kevin Walsh, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator Olando Dulin - were on hand to help answer community questions and offer insight.
The inital plan is to have meetings on the second Wednesday of every month, with the location rotating throughout the district. All members of the community are welcome to attend, including parents, current and former students, business leaders, and those simply curious or willing to engage in productive conversations about the Steel Valley School District.
The next community meeting will be Wednesday, August 10 at 7 p.m. and will be back at Barrett Elementary.
