Steel Valley hosted its second community meeting on Wednesday, August 10 at Barrett Elementary. The new monthly meetings are designed to engage members of the community about what the district does well and to identify areas that it can improve.
School board members William McLaughlin and JaQuay Carter organized the meetings, and the August session turned interactive. Participants were provided sticky notes and asked to identify what comes to mind when they think of Steel Valley's positives, opportunities for Steel Valley to grow and improve, and what the portrait of a Steel Valley graduate looks like.
Assistant Superintendent Bryan Macuga, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator Olando Dulin, High School Principal John Strom, Middle School Principal Ryan Brown, Park Elementary Principal Dr. Tom Shaughnessy, and Barrett Elementary counselor Alyson Fisher were on hand to help answer community questions and provide insight.
After two meetings at Barrett Elementary, the location will shift for the next community meeting. The next session will take place on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the high school. The location will continue to move throughout the district in order to engage as many community members as possible. All members of the community are welcome to attend, including parents, current and former students, business leaders, and local residents.
