NAMI McKeesport, a support group of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, meetings are open to families and friends of loved ones living with mental illness. A presentation via Zoom will be given by Brian Kelnhofer, financial advisor, with 1847 Financial of Conshohocken PA. Kelnhofer will provide an overview of government benefit programs as well as strategies for protecting and maximizing eligibility for certain government benefits. He will evaluate the ABLE Act and how it compares to alternative options for setting aside funding for individuals with disabilities. He will address estate-planning considerations such as Wills, Special Needs Trusts, and differences between Guardianship and Powers of Attorney. Strategies will be presented to address funding of special needs trusts, tax planning, and ensuring quality of life and lifetime care are maintained for loved ones. He also will cover the added complexity of planning for retirement with a special needs loved one in the picture.
