CARNEGIE, PA — Congressman Chris Deluzio announced the winner of his first annual Congressional Art Competition. Each spring, the House of Representatives sponsors a visual art competition for high school students. Young people from across the nation are invited to showcase their art and highlight their home congressional districts.

Congressman Chris Deluzio's office recieved many submissions from talented high school students in Pennsylvania's 17th Congressional District. This year, the first place prize is presented to Ms. Anushka Prabhu of North Allegheny, PA, a sophomore at North Allegheny High School. Ms. Prabhu's artwork is titled, "Varanasi, India." Through watercolor paints and deft pencil lines, Ms. Prabhu sought to capture the beauty she found in her recent travels to India. She resides in the North Hills.

"I'm proud to sponsor the Congressional Art Competition for local young artists, and share the talents of PA-17 students with the nation," said Congressman Deluzio. "Western PA has produced so many artistic visionaries, and today's gifted artists are no exception. Congratulations to Ms. Prabhu and this year's winners of the congressional art competition across the country. I am grateful to everyone who submitted their artwork."

"Varanasi, India" along with the first place winners across the country, will be honored at an event in Washington, D.C. and their art will be featured in a gallery in the United States Capitol for a full year. This gallery decorates one of the busiest corridors in the U.S. Capitol Complex, giving Members of Congress and visitors from across the nation the chance to see Ms. Prabhu's work.

Congressman Chris Deluzio also selected winners for second and third place. Second place goes to Ms. Minji Kim (North Allegheny High School) for her piece "Strive to be Alive." Two PA-17 students are taking home third place: Ms. Helen Lee (The Ellis School) for her work "Hope in a Moonless Night" and Ms. Sophia Jho (Shady Side Academy) for her piece "Introspection."
